Get set up

Everything you need to run the free viewer, publish with the Creator tool, host your video, and put MAVV on your own site.

Getting started

Using the Free Viewer

The free viewer runs entirely in your browser. Nothing uploads anywhere — your video files stay on your device for the length of that browser session.

1
Load your videos. Open the viewer and drop in up to 12 video files — one per camera angle. MP4, WebM, and MOV all work.
2
Set sync points. Scrub each video to the same real-world moment and mark it. Once every angle is marked, they lock together — switching angles keeps you at the same moment in time.
3
Set zoom points (optional). Click "Mark Zoom Point," then click the spot in the frame you want to zoom into, at the moment you want it to start. That video zooms to that point from that timestamp onward. Hit "Clear" to remove it.
4
Watch. Click any thumbnail to switch angles, scroll to zoom on the fly, or turn on auto-cycle to have MAVV step through every camera on its own.
Note: the free viewer doesn't save anything. Close the tab or reload the page and you'll need to reload your videos and re-mark your points. If you want your video set and markings to persist and be shareable, that's what the Creator license is for.

Creator license

Using the Creator Tool

The Creator tool works the same way as the free viewer, with one key difference: instead of loading files off your device, you load videos by URL from your own hosting. That's what makes your work persistent and shareable.

1
Host your videos. Upload your footage somewhere that gives you a direct link to the file (see Hosting Your Videos below).
2
Add each video by URL. Paste in the direct link for each camera angle.
3
Set sync points, zoom points, and cycle timing the same way you would in the free viewer.
4
Turn on "Allow Override" (optional). This lets viewers explore the full, unrestricted video set and set their own temporary zoom/sync points during their visit. Their changes are never saved — closing the page or reloading resets to your original markings.
5
Publish. Click "Publish" to generate a link with your video set and all your markings baked in. Share that link with your audience — anyone who opens it lands straight in viewer mode, with your authoring controls hidden.
Heads up on link length: the published link encodes your video URLs and markings directly in the address. With a lot of camera angles and very long hosting URLs, the link can get long. If you hit that, shorter hosting URLs (or a URL shortener) keep it manageable.

Video hosting

Hosting Your Videos

The Creator tool needs a direct file URL for each video — a link that points straight at the video file itself, not a page with an embedded player. That rules out YouTube, Vimeo, and similar platforms, since they serve video through their own player rather than a raw file link.

We recommend Bunny.net — it's built for exactly this, it's inexpensive, and it gives you a direct playable URL for every video you upload.

1
Sign up for a Bunny.net account and create a Stream video library.
2
Upload each camera angle's video file to your library.
3
Copy the direct playback URL for each video and paste it into the Creator tool.
Will work
Bunny.net Stream, Cloudflare R2, AWS S3 + CloudFront, Backblaze B2 — any service that hands you a direct link to the file itself.
Won't work
YouTube, Vimeo, Google Photos, Uscreen, Wistia — these serve video through their own embedded player, not a raw file link.
If your content is adult-oriented: Bunny.net's terms explicitly allow legal adult content. AWS does not — its terms prohibit sexually explicit material outright. Choose your host accordingly, and always host content behind whatever age-verification and access controls apply in your situation.

Installing on Your Own Site

The Creator tool is a single file — no server setup, no database. There are two ways to put it on your own site.

Drop-in file
Upload the file to your web host via FTP or your host's file manager (cPanel, etc.). It becomes a live page at your own address — for example, yoursite.com/viewer/. Link to it from your site's menu or a button.
Embed snippet
Host the file once, then paste a small embed code into any page — a WordPress Custom HTML block, a Squarespace code block, Wix's embed widget, or hand-coded HTML. Works on virtually any site builder.

Example embed snippet, once you have a published link:

<iframe
  src="https://yoursite.com/viewer/#d=YOUR_PUBLISHED_LINK_DATA"
  width="100%" height="600" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>
</iframe>

Questions

FAQ

QuestionAnswer
Do I need to know how to code? No, for the drop-in file method. The embed snippet method needs you to paste a short code block into your site, which most page builders make straightforward.
Can I update my published video set later?Yes — open the Creator tool, load your saved session, make changes, and publish again to get a new link.
Do viewers need an account? No. Anyone with the link can watch, no login required.
Can I password-protect a published link? Not built in today. If you need that, put the embed page itself behind your site's own membership or login system.
